You will need to be using sound golf swing mechanics to score well on any golf course

Picking the top three golf courses in America is a very subjective decision to make. However using the opinions of the greatest golfers in world helps make this decision less subjective. Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods qualify as golfers with opinions that fit this category. However since I don't have access to their opinions, Golf Digest has listed what they consider to be the top golf course of 2009 - 2010. The top three are the Augusta National Golf Course, Pine Valley Golf Course and Shinnecock Hills Course.
The Augusta National Course is located in Augusta Georgia. This course hosts the PGA Tour event known as the Masters. It was designed by Alister Mackenzie and Bobby Jones. It is 7,435 yards in length and has a par of 72. Unlike most other private or public golf courses in the United States, Augusta National has never been rated. During the 1990 Masters Tournament, a team of USGA raters organized by Golf Digest, evaluated the course and gave it an unofficial rating of 76.2.
The Pine Valley Course is located in Pine Valley, New Jersey. The Pine Valley Golf Club is a highly exclusive club. Male-only membership is by invitation from the board of directors only. There are about 1,300 members spread throughout the world, and the list is a closely guarded secret. It was designed by George Crump and H.S Colt. The course is 7,047 yards in length from the back tees. It is a par 70 and has a course rating of 73.03.
Number three on the list is the Shinnecock Hills Golf Course. It is located in Southhampton, New York. It lays claim to being the oldest formal organized golf club in the United States (1891) and it claims to have the oldest golf clubhouse in the U.S. (1892) and the first club to admit women (which it did from the start). It is 6,781 yards in length, with a par of 70.
If you choose to play any of these course, you will need to be using sound golf swing mechanics to score well. Learning the correct golf swing mechanics will help you score well on any golf course.
Best Regards
